Why Are My Thighs Dark?

Obesity is a major cause of dark thighs. In fact, it’s been found that if you are fat, you will have dark thighs. This is because the skin of your thighs rub against each other any time you walk. That friction makes your thigh dark.

Other causes include regular shaving, excessive sweating, exposure to ultra violet sun rays and hormonal imbalance.

Lifestyle Changes

Other than using home remedies to lighten your dark inner thighs, there are ways of living and habits you must change to reduce those dark patches. Here are some:

  1. Watch Your Weight

As said earlier, one of the major reasons for dark inner thigh is obesity. This is because the thighs tend to overlap while walking.

You could begin with exercises that concentrate on your thighs. Removing a few pounds off your body weight might reduce the black patch on your thighs.

  1. Avoid Friction

Friction occurs when both thighs rub against each other when you walk. It makes you sweat, causes itching and gradually leads to dark inner thighs.

So you can begin with letting go of those tight jeans and get some loose pants. Wear more of cotton fabric instead of nylon. Nylon might irritate your skin.

  1. Shield your skin from the sun

It is normal to want to wear shorts and short skirts, or wear that bikini outfit at the beach.

But you need to keep your skin away from the sun as much as you can. Ultraviolet rays from the sun affect your skin and can cause great damage to its colour. For the mean time, stick to longer outfits.

  1. Do not use contraceptives until you consult a physician

You might not know, but those contraceptives you have been taking might be the reason for your dark inner thighs. So don’t get contraceptives over the counter – talk to your doctor!

Also keep a tab on the effects it has on your skin. If you notice anything unusual, speak to your doctor immediately.
