The rainy days are here!
More than ever, this is the period when you should give special attention to your skin. Even though you do not have to bother about the intense heat of the sun, the rainy weather can also cause issues for your skin.
Do not be deceived by the cool weather. The break from the heat might seem like a blessing, but it isn’t entirely a blessing for your skin.
The humid weather leaves our skin damp. Damp skin creates a comfortable environment for fungi and microbes to lash on to your skin. This can result in different kinds of skin problems, ranging from skin rashes to ringworm.
Before we dive deep into how you can take care of your skin this season, let’s first talk about how the rainy season can adversely affect your skin.
Skincare problems to watch out for during the rainy season
Your skin becomes more prone to certain skin problems during the rainy season. Such skincare problems include:
- Folliculitis
- Acne
- Eczema
- Athlete’s foot
- Ringworm
- Skin rashes
- Skin irritation
- Scabies
Now that you know what kind of damage can occur to your skin if you don’t take care of it during the rainy season, let’s talk about how you can prevent the damage and maintain glowing skin.
How do you maintain glowing skin during the rainy season?
There are a few tips that can help you maintain glowing skin during the rainy season. They include:
-
Cleanse your skin
You have to cleanse your skin, at least twice daily.
It might seem unnecessary because the weather is cool, but it is compulsory that you do. The rainy weather can leave your skin feeling damp. Dampness can cause your skin to produce more oil (sebum) than usual which leads to excess oil on your skin. Excess oil can clog your skin pores and acne or other skin blemishes will begin to form.
So, cleanse your skin twice to thrice daily.
2. Moisturize
The humidity caused by steady rainfall leaves your skin dry.
This is not the period to keep your moisturizer aside. Moisturizing your skin helps to keep your skin hydrated and soft. It will also prevent your skin from becoming dry. Moreover, moisturizing your skin protects your skin barrier which protects your skin from harsh external conditions.
If you have oily or acne-prone skin, it is best you use a water-based moisturizer to reduce the secretion of excessive oil on your skin.
3. Apply sunscreen
Just because the weather is cloudy and it just finished raining does not mean you can step out of the house without sunscreen.
Contrary to what you think, Sunrays still penetrate through clouds. The clouds do not protect your skin from the UV rays of the sun.
So, make sure you apply your sunscreen every day before you step out of the house. Do this 20 minutes before you step to give your sunscreen time to be fully absorbed into your skin.
Also, make sure to apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 and above.
4. Get some anti-fungal products
Like I said earlier, your skin becomes damp during this period.
Humidity caused by the rains makes your skin a good breeding ground for germs and bacteria. To avoid fungal infections, get anti-fungal skincare products.
You can include an anti-fungal face wash to your skincare routine. Just make sure that your skin is protected from bacteria and fungi during this period to avoid skincare diseases that can damage your skin.
5. Exfoliate your skin
Exfoliation is particularly important during this period.
Your skin tends to get dry and produce excess oil. Also, it becomes a breeding ground for bacteria, thanks to the humidity.
To avoid the consequences of these, make sure you exfoliate. Exfoliating removes excess oil, dirt, germs, makeup residue from the surface of your skin. It ensures your skin stays clean and prevents your skin pores from getting clogged.
Ensure you exfoliate twice or thrice weekly.
6. Do not bath with hot water
I feel like I need to shout this in our ears.
It is very tempting to want to bathe with hot water especially when it is raining anf the weather is cold. Resist that temptation.
Hot water destroys your skin barrier, weakens your skin capillaries, causes skin irritation, and damages your skin. You can also burn your skin in the process.
Instead of hot water, bathe with warm water instead.
7. Give your skin a break from makeup
Adding layers of makeup on your skin is dangerous for your skin, especially during this period.
Makeup can clog your skin pores and cause breakouts on your skin. Also, your skin is already prone to bacterial and fungal infection, applying makeup makes it a more suitable breeding ground for bacteria.
During this period, give your skin a break from makeup. Even if you must apply makeup, make it very light.
In conclusion,
This might seem like the period to relax on your skincare but don’t.
Your skin needs more care this period. Make sure to do everything that I have included in this article and your skin will thank you for it.
