More than ever, it is important that we get the glowing skin that we desire. One question I ask women when I talk about skincare is “Do you have a skincare routine?”

Many aunties do not have a skincare routine. Some of them just take their bath and apply their body cream and they are out. Taking your bath is great but if you still have blemishes on your skin, it is not enough to give you that glowing and blemish-free skin we all want.

So, I am asking you today. What is your skincare routine like?

While you make a mental note of how you take care of your skin every day (do that because you are going to share with me at the end of this article), I am going to show you how you can switch up your skincare routine this year.

Why do I need a skincare routine?

Strictly following a skincare routine is very important for your skin’s health.

A skincare routine is basically a summary of the things you do every day to take care of your skin. We do not need a rocket scientist to know that the more you take good care of your skin, the more your skin becomes healthy, glowing, and blemish-free.

Your skincare routine helps to protect your skin from any damage that might happen to your skin as you go through your day. It also helps to repair the damage done to your skin. Basically, if you have a good skincare routine, it will be harder for skin blemishes to form on your skin and even when they do, they can be easily treated.

But ultimately, following a skincare routine gives you glowing and flawless skin.

What is the ideal skincare routine for flawless skin in 2021?

Just sit down, relax while I walk you through what you need to do. Here are the steps you need to carry out in your daily skincare routine.

  1. Start with cleansing your skin

The first step to flawless skin is clean skin.

Removing dirt and debris from your skin helps to prevent clogged pores, which in turn, prevents the formation of skincare blemishes.

So, start your morning by thoroughly cleansing your skin with a beauty soap or a cleanser. Makes sure that whatever skincare product you are using is suitable for your skin type to avoid skin irritation and reactions.

Also, ensure your cleanser or soap is mild and not harsh on your skin. If it is, it can strip your skin off its natural oils and leave your skin extremely dry and irritated.

  1. Put your toner to work

You should have a toner in your skincare kit.

It plays an important role in ensuring that you have flawless skin. It shrinks your skin pores which makes it hard for dirt, dust, debris, etc., to penetrate into your skin. It improves your skin’s elasticity and helps to delay the appearance of aging signs.

So, tell me again. Why don’t you have a toner yet?

When you go shopping for toners, ensure you do not get one that is harsh for the skin. Stay away from those that have alcohol or other drying ingredients.

Buy those that have a moisturizing effect. They will keep your skin hydrated all day.

  1. Apply your serum

A serum is a highly concentrated lotion or gel. It contains active ingredients that give fast and effective results. If you want to get a serum, get one that contains antioxidants.

Antioxidants protect your skin from the damage caused by exposure to sun rays. It also prevents and treats skin inflammation.

Antioxidant serums usually contain vitamins that provide your skin with the nutrients it needs to stay healthy. Also, watch out for ingredients like glycolic acid, retinol, hyaluronic acid, glycerin, etc.

They help to keep your skin free from acne, protect your skin from sun burns, fasten skin repair and keep your skin evenly toned.

  1. Pamper your eyes

While you taking care of your face, do not forget your eyes.

The skin around your eyes is the thinnest and most fragile. You have to take care of them. Applying an eye serum every day helps to keep your eyelids healthy. It also ensures that the skin around your skin do not start showing premature aging signs, by retaining your skin’s elasticity.

  1. Work in some moisture

Moisture is one of the backbones of healthy skin.

So, no matter what happens (and I mean, even if the sky is falling), do not forget to moisturize your skin. A moisturizer provides your skin with the moisture it needs to stay hydrated all day.

It also helps to strengthen your skin barrier which makes it easier for your skin to stay protected from damaging external factors.

Make sure you apply your moisturizer while your skin is damp. That way, you skin locks in enough moisture from the moisturizer.

  1. Activate your sun guard

Your number one protection from the sun is your sunscreen.

It protects your skin from the ultra-violet rays of the sun and their damaging effects. It prevents hyperpigmentation, sun spots, sunburns, etc., and other sun-related skin issues.

Ensure your sunscreen contains an SPF of 30 and above. Apply your sunscreen before leaving the house and also every four hours during the day.

This way, your skin stays fully protected from the sun.

Once you are done with all these steps, you are good to go and conquer your day.
