7 Warning Signs You Should See A Dermatologist Immediately

When last did you ask a dermatologist for advice about your skin?

For most women, the answer is NEVER.

It is funny how when we notice a rash, pimple or any other skin irritation, we ask for help from our friends, who know little or next to nothing about skincare.

Some of us go with the popular trend. Because everyone says this is working, we believe it will work for our skin. We forget that our skin reacts differently to skincare products.

Most of us are guilty of this. Even I have done this in times past, but that is not the right way to go.

Because skincare is essential, it is necessary that you see a dermatologist.

Who is a dermatologist?

A dermatologist simply put, is a doctor for your skin, hair, and nails.

Dermatologists are skincare experts that diagnose, and treat different skincare conditions. So, when you notice anything wrong with your skin, your first call should be a dermatologist.

I understand that you might not be able to see a dermatologist for every skin care issue, but there are some warning signs that tell you it is time to see a dermatologist immediately.

And you should never ignore these signs.

When do I know its time to visit a dermatologist?

1.When you notice a new skin growth

Many dermatologists advise that you check your skin regularly so you can quickly notice when changes occur.

If you notice a mark or a growth on your skin that wasn’t there before, and it doesn’t go away within two weeks, you need to see a dermatologist as soon as possible.

The growth may be benign, but you can never be sure. What if it isn’t?

One of the easiest ways of preventing skin cancer is seeking medical advice immediately you notice new growth on your skin.

2. When you are in doubt

It is a different thing when you notice a skin reaction, and you know exactly how to treat it. Maybe because you have experienced it before.

But if you notice anything on your skin, and you have no idea what it is or how it can be treated, then, you need to see a dermatologist.

Do not self-diagnose or simply look up the symptoms on the internet without seeking expert opinion, or help.

3. When you notice your acne getting worse

With a daily skincare routine in place, you can be able to get rid of acne in no time.

But when it becomes persistent or the symptoms are getting worse, you need to see a dermatologist.

When acne stays longer than a month, it means you are doing something wrong.

It could be that you are using the wrong skincare treatment or the product doesn’t go well with your skin, or you are worsening your symptoms with bad skincare habits.

Only a dermatologist can help you figure out the problem, and tell you the right way to treat it.

4. When you have a wound or sore that refuses to heal

Usually, a wound or sore should heal within a few weeks if properly taken care of.

When it begins to stay for a long time without showing signs of healing, then you need to see a dermatologist.

Wounds or sores that do not heal on time can lead to skin complications, or they may be an indication of a serious medical condition, like cancer

Whatever the skin condition is, once it refuses to get better after treating it for a while, you need to visit your dermatologist.

Then, you will know why it is taking that long to heal, and if it is a skin disease you should worry about.

5. When you begin to notice aging signs

Every one of us eventually gets to this point.

The morning you wake up and notice aging signs on your skin, your first stop for the day should be the dermatologist’s office.

This is more important if you are experiencing premature aging.

Your dermatologist will give you instructions on what to do to age healthily and also, prescribe the necessary skincare products to erase aging signs, and slow down skin aging process.

It is also important that before you go shopping for skincare products, you talk to your dermatologist.

That a skincare product is expensive and popular doesn’t mean it will work for you.

6. When you start sweating excessively

It is normal that we sweat when the weather is hot. But it becomes a cause for alarm when it gets too much.

Excessive sweating could be caused by different factors ranging from hormonal disorder to diabetes.

To be sure that it is not something you should worry about, you need to see a dermatologist.

He/she will help you figure out the reason why you are sweating excessively, and the best way to treat it.

7. If you haven’t seen a dermatologist in a year

A year is too long a time for you to stay away from a dermatologist office.

A million and one things can go wrong with your skin within a year.

If you haven’t seen your dermatologist in a year, then you need to schedule a visit immediately you are done reading this post.

Going for regular checkup is key to keeping your skin healthy and glowing.

Also, regular checkups, coupled with skincare instructions from your dermatologist, can help keep your skin free from chronic skin conditions like cancer.

A yearly skincare examination by your dermatologist is very important, and you should never miss it.

In conclusion,

Your skin needs a doctor’s care just like every other part of your body.

Whenever you notice any change on your skin that is unusual, do not guess or self-diagnose the problem. See your dermatologist immediately.

Also, when common skincare conditions like rashes, acne or sores do not respond to treatment, a visit to the dermatologist is the perfect next step to take.

No matter how busy you are, an annual checkup is very important.

If you want a youthful glow even when you are in your fifties, schedule a visit to the dermatologist far earlier. Don’t wait till then.

And if you’re in your fifties already and never seen a dermatologist, it’s never too late; go book an appointment now.

So…over to you: have you seen a dermatologist before? If yes, what was your experience like? If no, when would you like to? Let’s continue the discussion in the comments.
